HI, I'M LAURENCE FOOTE

I have completed three Ironman distance races in the last four years (with another to come this September), a further eight half distance races, as well as numerous duathlons, aquathlons and short course triathlons. My first Ironman race came 11 months after serious illness and was my personal challenge to prove to myself that I was fit again and ready for anything. Before I caught the triathlon bug, I completed three standalone marathons as well as half marathons, 10-mile, 10K and cross-country races.

I am an active member and coach of a running/triathlon club, a Level 2 British Triathlon Federation qualified coach, and have completed several CPD units, including Freestyle for Beginners and Strength and Conditioning. I’ve also attended Open Water and Junior Coaching Development Days as well.

ABOUT FOOTESTEPS

I founded FooteSteps to provide sensible and workable coaching plans and skill sessions to all levels of triathletes and single discipline athletes. There is no need for gimmicks, just a sound understanding of up-to-date coaching and training processes – a structured and well thought out session or plan with a clear aim and objective.

I have experience working with different athletes with a wide range of skills and abilities, challenging themselves over all distances and types of events, from their first sprint tri to Ironman distance, from 'for the fun of it’ participants to age group winners. I have particular experience with beginners in all disciplines individually and converting to mutli-sports events.

Every athlete has a strength. As a coach, I try to ensure these are used as the foundation for a great race performance. Weaknesses need to be identified and these are the areas where the biggest gains can often be made with the help and guidance of a coach.

Not only do I look at physical ability, fitness and skill but also attitude and mental approach. Often the aspect that holds back an athlete the most is their own perception of their ability rather than their actual ability. As a coach my role is to provide plans and sessions that build confidence and give my athletes the understanding and belief allowing them to perform to the best of their ability. When you have the confidence to push yourself, it’s amazing how far you can go – or how quickly you can get there. I look to understand my athletes, their work and home commitments, tailoring a plan that fits their lives as well as their individual goals.

I have personal experience of training whilst working and helping to raise a young family, so I understand the constraints that can challenge an amateur athlete. I also understand the rewards and enjoyment from setting a goal, and achieving it. I love rising to the challenges I have set myself and equally enjoy helping others reach theirs. No-one's challenge is more or less significant than anyone else's and every athlete deserves the best possible opportunity to meet their own challenge. So I will use the experience I’ve gained as an athlete, as well as a coach, to provide you with the guidance, plan or sessions you need to help you get were you want to go.

For those elements of your sporting needs that I cannot address directly, such as physiotherapy or bike maintenance, I can recommend trusted and properly-qualified professionals that will give you the right help.

I look forward to training with you.
